March Sale - Featuring the Daffodil

On March 19th we had a lovely show featuring spring’s most iconic flower…the Daffodil. The shop smelled divine with the scent of hyacinth and narcissus wafting amongst the people who stopped in. Nothing like those smells of spring to lift the spirits! The arrangements were small, simple and delicate, much like the little beauties they were showcasing.

We had a variety of daffodils in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colors….my favorite was probably pink charm. We set up a little “show” area with each daffodil and its name so customers could admire each one and smell the different fragrances.

There was also a corner of the shop set up like a flower “market” with plenty of loose stems to choose from, wrap up, and take home. In this area we also offered some lovely blooming branches including Forsythia, Quince, and, most specially, Tulip Magnolia—my favorite!

And then there was, of course, our Easter Basket area with ingredients for fun natural baskets from living grass to hand-felted wool baskets (made by dear Gail Bernstein) and all sorts of other fun goodies.

Even with the snow we had that day, customer turn out was wonderful. Thank you to my dear customers who braved the weather and came to see what we had. I had such fun talking with you all and showing you the flowers. I always enjoy the fun conversations. One customer even recited a lovely poem from her childhood having to do with hyacinths. I asked her to email it to me as it was such a sweet sentiment. I thought I would share it:

“Hyacinths to Feed Thy Soul”

If thou of fortune be bereft,

And in thy store there be but left

Two loaves, sell one, and with the

dole, buy hyacinths to feed thy soul.

-John Greenleaf Whittier

I hope that the flowers you took home from our sale did exactly that ….fed the soul. Flowers certainly do that for me. They always have, and I imagine they always will. That’s why I do this work. Because it feeds my soul.
